About Asperger Syndrome
Asperger Syndrome is a developmental, neuro-biological disorder. It is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), one of a distinct group of neurological conditions characterized by a greater or lesser degree of impairment in language and communication skills, as well as repetitive or restrictive patterns of thought and behavior.
Individuals with Aspergers typically exhibit deficiencies with social skills, reading non-verbal cues (body language), transitions (change in routines), often have obsessive routines, and are highly sensitive to various stimuli, including sounds, tastes, smells, and sights. Most individuals with Aspergers have normal or high IQs, with some exhibiting exceptional skill or talent in a specific area.
